So the majority of us this winter will say Merry Christmas, and the rest Happy Holidays; depending on if you're either more considerate of plurality or working in retail.
To be honest, saying Happy Holidays is really quite stupid, considering the only reason Jews make Hanukkah as big of a deal as they do is because of Christmas. Hanukkah, in reality, is a very unimportant holiday in Judaism. Why don't they just have a big party and give gifts on Yom Kippur, instead of having it be at the same time as Christmas? That makes much more sense. And don't get even me started on Kwanzaa...
Black History Month: This is your best example of a bad holiday-designation on behalf of the government. - It goes off into other discussions, but in both practical and conceptual terms, it was a mistake. And as far as I'm concerned, every month is black history month.
Exactly. I think it's an insulting thing. It's like saying "Well, black history isn't important enough to be studied any other time of the year, so we'll give you a month" :| Outrageous! Why isn't it just mixed into the curriculum? On a similar rant, there are certain scholarships that are only for non-white people. I think this is pretty insulting too. Again, it's like saying "Oh, you're not good enough to get a regular scholarship, so we'll give you this one". Jeez, whoever came up with this stuff is SOOOO stupid
