I am starting a new community, and I have always been a fan of phpbb. I've tried vanilla phpbb that I modded myself, and phpbbfm. I don't want to go back to phpbbfm because of three major reasons.
1 - It breaks licenses and includes mods against author's wishes.
2 - It is slow.
3 - It is cluttered.
I'm rather excited about phpbb3, but it lacks some of the features I've come accustomed to with phpbbfm.
What I'd really love is a pre-modded phpbb3 package. I'd be willing to help work on such a project and even host files and a demo board.
Is there a need and desire for such a project? I believe so. I believe there needs to be a quality, legal alternative to phpbbfm. I believe we need a project to showcase the wonderful progress on phpbb3, and to showcase the best of the modding community.
Obviously there would need to be some serious discussion about project goals, which mods to include, what mods are needed that haven't been rewritten for phpbb3, etc.

There will be min. 2 premods of phpBB3 - KisMOD (by Michaelo) and phpBB 3 XP (that's only codename) (by me). I will start working on my project when phpBB3 will be released. It will include all existing mods (but only if they have good quality; if not I will probably rewrite them

I'm not sure how much you have been able to explore Olympus, but it's possible, or more likely that most of the MODs are included as default features in phpBB3.
That said, I'm highly interested in the list of MODs included in phpBBfm, or other popular pre-MODded phpBB board.

I'll try to take some time this week to throw up a phpbb3 install, check for what features are now standard, and go down that list as well.
I wouldn't want EVERY one of phpbb3's mods as some are extraneous. And some, even if I did include, I'd want to change a bit. For instance there are several mods that add clutter and excess icons to every topic body.
If you load up a phpbbfm board, next to your avatar with every post there is a trophy icon, karma icons, rank icons, title icons, zodiac icons, gender icons, chinese zodiac icons, flags, birthday stars, etc.
When I've had phpbbfm boards, I remove those icons from all the posts, but leave them in the user bio.

That, to me, seems to just be a typical sans font, maybe a bit rugged...
