MODX Spec updated

Postby A_Jelly_Doughnut » 23 Jul 2007, 07:48

The phpBB.com MOD Team has released v 1.0.1 of the MODX spec. It fixes some issues raised at last month's MOD Authors Convention, including how to label a MOD as beta.

Thanks oh Doughnut. :D

Changing to Sticky, all MOD Authors should become familiar with the new spec, it is very important.
We will do an overview on the next phpBB Weekly podcast as well.
Watch out! I might do a code wheelie!

Why ??

(Yes i know, not trying to step on toes, but just one thing i'm wondering since day one modx came alive..... Everyone is talking how important it is to make mods in the modX standards....i just think it's horrible. Copy/paste isn't working as it's supposed to, tabs & spaces are ALWAYS way off etc.etc.)

XML is too cool to pass up.

Actually, I think the primary motivation for using an XML based MOD template is because it is easier for machines to parse. This makes the task of writing EasyMOD simpler, as well as MOD validation tools, such as mEAL.

xml is cool, no doubt about that, but that wasn't my question.

As for the second part of your answer...well, to be honest, i hope the new easymod is going to be better than the old one (which missed most of the times better part of the mod, ending up with people having half mods and one had to figure out what to do again where......)

Well, i hope you are right, i hope we will all benefit from it, but if you don't mind, i'm not keeping my breath.....

PS, again, NOT being an [*donkey*], NOT wanting to be negatiuve about it, but really really want to understand why this all could be better...... :hello:

Ive just finished my first ever mod, and I have no idea how to modx it...
is there a blank one I can just fill in my details and required edits?

Ive looked at the FAQ on phpbb, but it seems over complicated for an instruction file!

can I borrow an existing one and change to my details?

Of course!!
Alternatively, you could use the MODX Script Generator: http://www.geoffreak.org/rc4/xmlscript2.php
It has a few glitches. They require just a couple edits to validate.
Change the XSD to 1.0.1 and I think the other glitch had to do with the MOD Author, but I don?t remember at the moment. -- it becomes second nature after a while and you forgot these things. :this:

Thanks highway,

Once I have done the modx, can I post my mod here before I goto phpbb? just to see what people think? it really is a basic MOD, but I find it useful.
