Re: [DEV] phpBBmobile Device Browser Style

Postby nathan2226 » 01 Dec 2011, 04:17

Hi,

I have two styles, one for a desktop and the other for mobiles. I have bbcodes for the desktop version, I want to ban the use of bbcode on the mobile version (to save bandwidth for the workforce)

What is the coding for this? Couldn't find it after searching the thread.

Thanks

There is a MOD out on bbCode permissions. But that selects what group can use certain bbCodes. I don't think there is a MOD on which styles can use certain bbCodes. You could edit the bbcode template and list only the bbCodes you want the mobile style to use. But I'm not sure if the user could still manually enter in a bbCode that isn't listed. Try taking out the bbCodes you don't want and see how it works.

Although what you would need is for certain bbCodes not to show in the mobile style, not the ability to post a bbCode. I would think that the edits needed for that would be in the viewtopic.php file. We would need a MOD for that. That is something over my abilities.

So what if someone makes a post and uses some BBCode and you view it from your mobile phone and cant see anything that was posted using bbcode doesnt that completely take away from the post?

I never have an issue with bbcode taking up bandwidth or load times on the mobile site/style what so ever. Only time is maybe when there are a lot of larger images on the site but even then, I have it set so you can only upload/post images that are so big so its not a big problem what so ever.

Just a thought.

It is not so much the bandwidth they are concerned about (tell a lie), it is more of the data plan's that the engineers do via their PDA's.

The bbcodes i've created includes a link to the video post somewhere else (if that makes sense)

But ... I will take your post and Sniper_E's into account :)

And you can also look into editing the bbcode.html on your mobile style.
Instead of having the code show an image you can have it link to the image.

When you say videos, if it has flash videos then you may can hide those with a link to them.
Same goes with the attachment.html on your mobile style. Make them show what you want.

I would play around with those files first before trying to create a MOD.

I have installed "Advanced BBCode Box 3" in my forum and it has a "SPOILER BBCode Button".
When I try to "open" some spoiler from the mobile theme I can not do it.
Is there any way to solve it?

Thanks!

I try to do it but the "select file" button is disable...

Thanks!

You know, it depends on your phone browser's capability... or your phone's capability.
I can upload images with my HTC Inspire but not .zip files. I have not found a way to do it yet.

As far as the spoiler, it will not scroll for me even in prosilver. No autoscroll works in anything.
I would have to get back to my computer to play with the spoiler bbcode.
Is it listed in the bbcodes.html template? We would have to change it so it wouldn't work.
We would want any spoiler used to show all the codes in the mobile style.
