Forum based permissions for specific Topic Authors to be able to view/post in their own topics.
Good for:

• One-on-one support forums.
  Where some information should be kept private between the support personnel and the customer/user.
• Account setup forums
  New accounts, or account information would be discussed with appropriate staff and user.
• Moderator Requests
  Where you would want only Admins to be able to discuss with the individual about the Moderator promotion request.
• Journal or Blog Forum
  Where a topic author would want to be the only person to be able to post to his own topic, but others would be able to read/see/view it.
  
  • Expansion MOD/Module
    The topic would contain all the users who have viewed the topic... would keep a running record.
• Complaints
  Where users can keep their general complaints between the Moderators and the User posting the complaint.
• Security Tracker
  Where a user can submit a Security vulnerability for any software, and the appropriate staff could discuss with that user privately.

Features

• Author Viewable ONLY (only the author can view the topic)
• Author + Others viewable -- Permissions based on a per-fora basis (specific user groups can view all posts within the topic -- the support team -- Good for support forums.)
• Author Postable ONLY (only the author can post in the topic, but others can see/view the topics based on existing permissions. -- Good for journal-type forums.
• Author invite -- Author can invite another user (or users) to post and/or view the topic.

Just confirming on this:

Sounds like something you could do for a support forum, or perhaps signing up for hosting accounts (I'm thinking in terms of how this could be used on the site I administer) where you only want staff or "moderators" and the person who created the post can view? Sounds nifty... I would definatly use that.

We request some information from our members, and before we created a PHP script that collects the information and only we can see it, anyone reading the signup forum could get people's information that we requested! So this is a great idea...

Just make sure we clarify WHAT credentials a user must have before they can read the post/topic without being the author. I don't know if you would want another moderator permission saying "view hidden posts" or a forum permission based on groups "user can view posts by other members".

Agreed! Har har! And whenever I am given the chance to test that out on a somewhat populated database, I'd be glad to do so.

Feature request for self: Author postable only permission.

So it would have an extra two permissions...

is there anyway this could be done with ajax so its like a personal shoutbox inside the thread, then when its answered the thread is pruned after x days.

Actually, that's in interesting though... Version 2.0 of the chatbox will have rooms... and I will add that request to the Chatbox 2.2 Dev (I don't think I'll make it for version 2... I have plenty to do to get that going)
